Precision Metagenomics in Respiratory Medicine
In a recent article published by the journal Advances in Respiratory Medicine, Advanta scientists describe their results from testing samples from patients suspected of respiratory infection. The study demonstrates evidence that a hybridization-capture-based mNGS workflow allowed the detection of 29 additional respiratory microorganisms versus testing the same samples with conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
Further, the researchers were able to characterize the potential pathogens into three phenotypic groups for consideration of infectivity and trafficking potential to the lower respiratory region. Accordingly, mNGS testing has the potential to provide respiratory medicine providers with a tool to better manage immunocompromised or immunocompetent patients and complex respiratory cases. Advanta Genetics now offers this comprehensive, yet clinically relevant, mNGS testing for determining the microbial profile of respiratory infection within 30 hours.
