Clinical microbiology is the science of growing organisms to identify cause of sickness and disease. Usually, organisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi) can be cultured and grown over a period of 24 hours to 3 or 4 days, depending on the organism. Once the organism(s) have been grown, we can also reveal resistance or sensitivity to an antibiotic, to provide the best treatment option for the patient.

Beyond the traditional use of clinical microbiology testing, our laboratory uses microbiology to advance our research and understanding of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and next generation sequencing (NGS) testing methods. Our investment into a comprehensive laboratory approach that can identify the most common and most obscure clinically relevant organisms differentiates Advanta Genetics.
